Cub Scout CampinG

Cub Scout camping is a family-centric program offered by many Packs.. The opportunity to explore in the outdoors in unmatched for making memories and fostering growth. Cub Scout Packs conducting overnight camping activities may camp for up to two consecutive nights.*

To maximize the experience for everyone, Scouting America has several policies that must be followed for Packs (and dens) to follow.

These policies also apply to Webelos and Arrow of Light dens, which may conduct den-coordinated campouts. This also includes overnight campouts sponsored by Troops to which Cub Scout Packs and/or Dens are invited.

• Training:

  • Each Pack sponsored overnight activity requires at lease one BALOO trained adult leader oversee the planning and be present at all times (including overnight). Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a weekend training offered by the council semi-annually. There is additional on-line pre-work that accompanies this training found here, and also includes hazardous weather training. BALOO training does not expire, however hazardous weather training must be renewed every 24 months. Upcoming BALOO trainings may be found on the council calendar.

  • All Guide to Safe Scouting and S.A.F.E. Guarding Youth policies apply at all times.

• Guidelines

  • The Guide to Safe Scouting has a section specific to Cub Scout camping that should be reviewed here.

• Health & Safety

  • All participants must have a Part A&B medical form on file with the pack prior to the campout. A binder of medical forms should be kept on-site while on the camping trip. . Pay special attention to allergies while planning.

  • An additional resource on food safety and sanitation is also available. Remember to Keep it cold, keep it clean, and cook it thoroughly.

• Approved Facilities

  • The Abrahm Lincoln Council Camping committee has preapproved the following locations for Cub Scout Camping.

    • Council Camps:

      • Camp Bunn

      • Camp Illinek

    • State Park and other group camp sites (All locations require reservation directly with the owner /public agency and may be subject to firearm deer and turkey hunting season blackouts. Use also, requires confirmation by Pack of de-winterization and available running water, generally between May 1 and November 1).

      • New Salem

      • Jim Edgar  Panther Creek (Site M)

      • Sangchris Lake

      • Siloam Springs

      • Beaver Dam

      • Eagle Creek

      • Camp CILCA

    • Other Locations

      • Other locations not listed above may be requested in advance by completing a site appraisal form and submitting to the council office at least 30 days prior to the proposed camping date.

      • Freudenberg Scout Wilderness Area requires the submission of a written sanitation and emergency plan. This plan should also ensure adequate drinking water is provided for both drinking and sanitation. There is no on-site drinking water available, nor a storm shelter. Please submit unit plan at least 30 days prior to proposed camping date.

  *Council sponsored Cub Scout camping events such as Cub Scout Adventure Camp may extend to up to three nights and be no longer than 72 hours. Packs do not need a BALOO trained leader for Cub Scouts and parents/families to participate in council sponsored camping events.
